Early Treatment for Kids and Orthodontics for Teens
At Stellar Smiles Ortho, we recommend that a child's first orthodontic evaluation take place around age 6.
Children do not all develop on the same timetable. Some reach important stages of dental and physical development earlier than others. An evaluation around age 6 allows Dr. J to establish a baseline and assess developing teeth, eruption patterns, bite relationships, jaw relationships, dental arches, available space, and facial growth.
Earlier evaluation does not mean earlier treatment. It means earlier awareness.
Following the evaluation, Dr. J may recommend one of three approaches based on the child's individual development and diagnosis:
- Continued observation: Monitoring dental and jaw development through periodic evaluations when immediate treatment is not indicated.
- Interceptive Treatment: Addressing a specific developing orthodontic concern when treatment at that stage is clinically appropriate.
- Treatment at a later stage: Waiting until the child's development or dental eruption makes another stage of treatment more appropriate.
Not every child needs orthodontic treatment at a young age. For many children, observation is the appropriate recommendation.
When Interceptive Treatment is indicated, options may include Invisalign® First, Invisalign® Palatal Expander (IPE), other orthodontic appliances, or a combination of approaches, depending on the diagnosis.
The recommendation depends on the child's clinical needs, not on a predetermined treatment schedule or a particular technology.
